Chalcedony is a microcrystalline form of quartz, characterized by its fine-grained texture and translucent to semi-transparent appearance. It typically occurs in white, gray, light blue, or pale brown hues, but can also be found in other colors like orange, red, and green. Unlike its banded cousin agate, chalcedony generally displays a more uniform color distribution. Deposits of chalcedony are found worldwide, including in Thailand. With a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, chalcedony is quite durable. It has been used for jewelry and ornamental purposes since ancient times and continues to be a popular gemstone today. Chalcedony is often associated with promoting calmness, harmony, and good communication.
